How to get more Steam wishlists
Practical ways for indie developers to get more Steam wishlists: store page, demos, Next Fest, creators, curators, social posts, and tracking what works.
Updated
Start with the store page
Every other channel sends people to your Steam page, so fix it first. The capsule art and the first trailer seconds decide whether someone wishlists or leaves.
- Capsule: readable at thumbnail size, shows the genre at a glance.
- Trailer: gameplay in the first five seconds, no long logo intro.
- Short description: what the player does, not the lore.
- Tags: the genres your players actually search for.
Eight ways to get more wishlists
- A demo, ideally timed for Steam Next Fest.
- Creators who play your genre on YouTube, Twitch and TikTok. See how to pay YouTubers to play your game.
- Steam curators. See how to get Steam curators to cover your game.
- Short gameplay clips on X, TikTok and Reddit, posted regularly.
- Steam festivals and themed events that fit your genre.
- A mailing list or Discord, so early fans come back on launch day.
- Press and blogs in your niche, which also count as creators.
- Cross-promotion with other indie games in the same genre.
Measure every channel
Give each channel and each creator its own Steam UTM link. Steam then reports wishlists per link, so you can drop what doesn’t work and spend more on what does.
Ignore offers to sell you wishlists. Bot wishlists never buy and can hurt your page. Read why fake Steam wishlists backfire.
Pay only for wishlists that arrive
On Wishlistme you set a price per wishlist and creators pick up the job. You pay only for wishlists Steam attributes to their links, plus a 5% fee, and unearned budget goes back to your card. Post a job.
Questions
How many wishlists do I need before launch?
There’s no fixed number, but more wishlists mean a stronger launch week. Our guide to Steam wishlist conversion rates shows what share of wishlists turn into sales.
Do ads work for Steam wishlists?
They can, but results vary a lot by genre. Track ads with their own UTM link and compare the cost per wishlist with creators and curators.
